Diagnosing lymphoma can be complex and requires specialized expertise. Lymphoma Consult is a comprehensive diagnostic service led by experienced, board-certified pathologists who guide the evaluation process and order appropriate multi-modal testing to ensure an accurate diagnosis and prognosis.

This service includes morphology, flow cytometry, FISH, and molecular testing as clinically indicated. Results from ancillary testing are seamlessly integrated into the morphology report, either upfront or as an addendum.

Specimen Requirements

Fresh Lymph Node or Needle Core Tissue Biopsy: 0.5-1 cm3 in RPMI.
FFPE: Tissue block or tissue in 10% NBF.
Note: Collect under sterile conditions, as if for microbiologic culture.
Note on Fresh Tissue: Tissues larger than 0.5 cm3 should be cut into smaller pieces. Intact lymph nodes should be at least bisected. Must be split to RPMI (for Flow Cytometry studies) and 10% NBF (for Morphology).
Note for NYS clients: Please provide date and time of collection.

Storage and Transportation

Specimens should be received at NeoGenomics within 72 hours from collection to assure sample integrity and acceptable cell viability. Note: New York State samples must be received within 48 hours from collection per NYS requirements. Refrigerate specimen. Do not freeze. Use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.

Clinical Significance

There are more than 90 subtypes of nodal and extranodal lymphomas. Frequently, lymphoma diagnosis requires a comprehensive laboratory work-up with multiple test modalities in order to render a definitive diagnosis. Lymphoma Consult is a selected and personalized lab work-up to provide diagnostic clarity and often prognostic or predictive information to help inform effective patient care management.
